1. What does the registration fee cover?
The fee covers the cost of uniforms (jersey, visor, and socks), secondary medical insurance, umpires, equipment, clinics, and awards. The age groups 7 through 15 years old use one official per game. No officials for 5 and 6 year olds.
2. Awards/Trophies?
The 5/6 yr old players will receive a participation trophy.
The 7 yr old through 12 yr old players will receive a participation trophy, 1st & 2nd season trophy, and 1st & 2nd tournament trophy.
The 13/15 yr old players will receive a participation t-shirt, 1st & 2nd
season award t-shirt, and 1st & 2nd tournament award t-shirt.
3. Softball Affiliation?
Pelican Park softball program is affiliated with PONY.
4. How are the age groups determined?
The PONY league age determination date is age as of December 31, 2012. The softball age groups are 5 year olds, 6 year olds, 7/8 year olds, 9/10 year olds, 11/12 year olds, and 13/15 year olds. There must be enough registrants for each age group in order to have the league minimum of teams. If there are not enough registrants then age groups may have to be combined.
5. What is the Evaluation?
*Players in the 9 yr old and above leagues MUST evaluate at the pitching station in order to pitch in the league. *Only players that are registered can be evaluated. Evaluations are used in the drafting of teams to insure that equal talent is spread among all teams. The skills that will be evaluated are throwing, fielding, hitting, and pitching (9 yr old and above). The 5/6 year olds will not evaluate.
6. When is the Evaluation?
The date, time, and field location for each age group is located below. Registered players only need to attend one evaluation session. Call the Pelican Park Sports Hotline at 626-1444 if there is any question about field conditions. Parents should stay during the evaluation process, as the girls should be finished within 45 minutes. Girls will need to bring their gloves and bat to evaluations. Players in the 9 yr old and above leagues MUST evaluate at the pitching station in order to pitch in the league. The Park will provide an age group appropriate equipment bag that contains 2 batter's helmets and catcher's equipment. Please adhere to the reporting times to help ensure a smooth flow of players.

7. When and where are practices?
Practices will begin the week of April 8th for the 7 yr old leagues and above. Prior to regular season games beginning, teams will practice twice a week. Once the season starts, one practice slot a week is assigned to each team for ages 7 and above.
Practices begin the week of April 15th for the 5 & 6 yr old leagues. The regular season practices are optional for the 5/6 yr old league. Games are scheduled 1 ½ hrs apart so that the first 30 minutes is used for practice.
8. When are the games played?
The games will begin Saturday, April 27th for the 7 yr old league and above. There are 2 games played a week. One game will be during the week and the other on a weekend day. The games will begin Saturday, April 27th for ages 5 & 6. The 5 & 6 year old leagues will have a game on the weekend until school ends then they will have a weekday game as well as a weekend game.
9. What are the equipment requirements?
A jersey, visor, and socks are provided. All girls are required to have their own glove and bat. If you are buying her first glove, remember that girls 7 years through 10 years, play with an 11" softball and the girls 11 and up play with a 12" softball. Plastic cleats or athletic shoes are recommended. Metal cleats are not permitted for any age group. If you purchase a bat, please consult with a coach or knowledgeable person to make sure you select the proper length and weight softball bat. Pelican Park provides an age appropriate equipment bag to each coach that contains 2 team batting helmets with faceguards and catcher equipment for ages 7 and above. An equipment bag is also provided to the 5/6 yr old coaches that contains 2 batting helmets with faceguards. All batting helmets must have faceguards.
10. Pitching Rules?
Leagues for ages 6 – 8 are coach pitch and the leagues for ages 9 and above are player pitch.
11. When will the season end?
Leagues for ages 7-15 will play 12 regular season games, followed by a single elimination tournament. Depending on the number of teams and rainouts, the tournament games should end by mid June. Game schedules will be posted on the Pelican Park web site at www.pelicanpark.com as well as areas throughout the park. The 5 & 6 year olds will play 8 games with no tournament.
